The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 Camera

Panasonic is one of my favourite camera brands, so I do have a bit of a soft spot for their camera equipment. The beautiful Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 is quite a small camera that's great for travelling, street photography and much more. It features a powerful 12.8 megapixel sensor, 3.1 optical zoom lens, 4K video recording, WiFi connectivity, side mounted electronic viewfinder and an amazing 24mm Leica DC Vario Summilux lens. If you’re looking for a compact micro four thirds camera that has some serious photographic capabilities, then the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 is still a great option.

In terms of photography, the DMC-LX100 allows you to take incredibly detailed photos with its high resolution sensor. Its 3.1x optical zoom isn't the best in terms of length, but still allows you to get within range and capture stunning shots. There's also a 6.2x "smart zoom" on this camera that can help close the gap if needed.

You can also take advantage of its automated scene modes, which makes it easier to take great photos even when you’re a beginner. Take a look at the LX100 in the video below where it is put to the test against the much more expensive Sony A7C. There is a filter on the Panasonic, but considering the price difference, it still holds its own in many regards.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 can also record 4K video. Please bear in mind that the LX100 is not far off being 10 years old at this point. It’s very good, but not the best 4K camera on the market, especially in 2023 / 2024, but it can still capture impressive footage with the 4/3" type MOS sensor and fast autofocus system. There's also 4K photo capture mode. Basically the user can record in 4K and then take out 4K quality pictures from that footage. Great for editing out 4K shots from the footage of fast moving subject matter that can disappear in the blink of an eye, such as a lightning storm or wildlife.

You can also take advantage of its fast burst mode, which lets you take up to 40 frames per second. It also has an array of physical controls, including a zoom toggle, front and rear dials, shutter speed dial, manual focus ring and customizable function buttons. This camera has held its price pretty well. There is also a mark II model of this camera, and both are well worth considering, even today with the million more cameras that have been released since this model was first brought to market.
